He has published in philosophy, politics, religion, ethics, business ethics, and professional ethics. In 2007, he was nominated by the World Economic Forum at Davos as a Young Global leader. He is a popular lecturer both in Norway and elsewhere.

Henrik Syse was Head of Corporate Governance for Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM), which manages Europe’s largest sovereign wealth fund, the Government Pension Fund of Norway Global, from 2005 to 2007, and he continued, until 2009, as an advisor and consultant on social issues for NBIM.

His English publications include The Ethics of War: Classic and Contemporary Readings (edited by Gregory Reichberg and Endre Beby, Blackwell, 2006), Natural Law, Religion and Rights (St. Augustine’s Press, 2007, and Religion, War and Ethics: A Sourcebook of textual Traditions (edited together with Nicole Hartwell, Cambridge University Press, 2014. He has published academic articles on topics such as Security Dialogue and Journal of Peace Research, Augustinian Studies (now Blackwell), Natural Law, Religion, and Rights (St. Augustine’s Press, 2007), and Religion, War, & Ethics: A Sourcebook of Textual Traditions (edited with Gregory Reichberg, Nicole Hartwell, Cambridge University Press, 2014). His books include topics such as faith, reason, free speech and applied ethics.

Henrik Syse (born 19 April 1966), is a Norwegian philosopher and author. He is a Research Professor at Oslo’s Peace Research Institute (PRIO) and a part time Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies at Oslo’s Bjorknes College. Since 2015 Syse has been a member the Norwegian Nobel Committee that awards the Nobel Peace Prize. He was also a member the Norwegian Press Complaints Commission between 2002 and 2016. Syse also teaches at the Norwegian Defence University College and BI Norwegian Business School, MF Norwegian School of Theology and other institutions of higher education. He is Chief Editor (with Martin L. Cook), of the Journal of Military Ethics which is a peer-reviewed journal published in Taylor & Francis.

Syse is a Cand.Mag. Syse holds a Cand.Mag. degree from the University of Oslo (1989), an MA from Boston College, USA (1991) and a doctor of art. (Ph.D. ) degree from University of Oslo (1997) He was a Fulbright Scholar while at Boston College.
