She was named Chief Executive of Youth Cymru in November 2011. This voluntary organisation supports youth work in Wales. She is a member the Ministerial Advisory Board, which was sent to Pembrokeshire County Council in order to challenge and support them in improving safeguarding following damaging inspection reports. In September 2011, she was elected to the position of National Chair of Plaid Cymru.
She returned to the Assembly in August 2018 to represent Mid and West Wales following the resignation of Simon Thomas.
She lost her Llanelli constituency seat by 21 votes in 2003 elections to Senedd, but was still elected for the Mid-West Wales “top up” region. In the Second Assembly, she was Shadow Minister for Environment, Planning and Countryside (2003-07). She won the Llanelli constituency back with a majority vote of 3,884 votes during the 2007 elections to Senedd. In the 2011 election, she lost her seat to Keith Davies of Labour by 80 votes.
