Helder Manuel da Terra Fragueiro Marques Antunes is a child of Armando Manuel Marques Antunes (avionics and aerospace scientist, Torres Novas) and Carolina Bettencourt de Vasconcelos da Terra Fragueiro. He is a member the Bettencourt family, Horta, Azores. Antunes, a descendant from the Flemish explorers Willem van der Haegen, and Josse van Uerter, is related to Ernesto Hintze Ribeiro, 19th-century Portuguese prime minister. Antunes, through his father, is a cousin to Miguel Antunes Frasquilho (current Chairman of TAP Portugal) and a Portuguese politician. He is also a nephew to Manuel Antunes Frasquilho who was the former President of Port of Lisbon and Lisbon Metro. Pedro Bicudo, RTP journalist, described Antunes’ parents as “very well- known” in the Azores.

Antunes was born in Rhode Island and lived there until 1983 when his family moved to San Jose. Antunes’ father offered him a job at Lockheed Martin. He would then work on the Hubble Space Telescope. Antunes attended Georgetown University from 1982 to his final year of college. His family moved to California in 1983 and Antunes continued his education at San Jose State University. Antunes, his father, and he took over management of The Portuguese Tribune (a bilingual California newspaper that serves the Luso-American diaspora), and modernized it.

In 2012, Antunes was included in a list, called the National Selection, compiled by Revista Prémio, which listed the most powerful and influential Portuguese executives around the world and called Antunes “the guardian angel of Uncle Sam.”

Helder Fragueiro Antunes, a Portuguese-American executive and computer scientist, was born 6 July 1963 in Angra do Heroismo (Azores). Antunes, a Cisco Systems executive, was also the founder and first chairman of OpenFog Consortium. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer at CyVolve. Antunes’ car racing career made him one the most prominent open road racers of his time in the 1980s, 1990s.
