Hatip Dicle is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 1, 1954 in Diyarbakır, Diyarbakır Province, Turkey. Mehmet Hatip Dicle, a Turkish politician of Kurdish origin was born in Diyarbakir, Turkey, in 1955.
After a retrial, pressure from the European Union and release of the three prisoners, Dicle was still prohibited from any political activity on the 9th June 2004.
He was sentenced to 20 months in prison for a statement that he made to the ANKA agency in 2007 about the Kurdish question. This was interpreted by the Ankara 11th High Criminal Court as siding with terrorism, although other commentators have pointed out that the statement was advocating a peaceful solution and that the sentence is evidence of Turkey’s curbs on freedom of expression.
Dicle was again arrested in December 2009 as part of the KCK investigation.
Parliament lifted Dicle’s immunity on 2 March 1994 and he was detained. He was sentenced to 15-years imprisonment along with Orhan Dogan, Leyla Zana and Selim Sadak for membership in a Kurdistan Workers Party organization. The Democracy Party was also banned in June 1994.

Dicle was raised in an Islamic family. He was educated at the Ziya Gokalp High School in Diyarbakir. In 1979, he graduated from the Istanbul Technical University’s civil engineering department. In the 1970s, he began political activities by becoming involved in the Revolutionary Cultural Eastern Hearths and then joining the People’s Labor Party. (Halkin Emek Partisi is a working party of people). He traveled to Palestine in the late 1980s, where he joined Fatah and received military training.
He was elected to parliament in 1991 as part of a political alliance between the Social Democratic Populist Party and the HEP. The HEP was disbanded in 1993. The demise of the HEP was anticipated by Kurdish politicians who had already created the Democracy Party (Demokrasi Partisi or DEP). Dicle was elected chairman of the party on 12 December 1993. However, he was removed from his position as chairman in March 1994.
He was one of the first Co-Chairs of the Democratic Society Congress after its foundation in 2007 until 2010.
