He established the Dawa movement in Najaf (Iraq) in the early 1960s.
Following that, Nasrallah was required to complete a period in Islamic studies at a Shiite seminary near Najaf (Iraq). In 1979, Nasrallah was forced back to Lebanon, having completed the first section of his study. Saddam Hussein had already expelled many Shia’s including Ruhollah Khomeini, Ayatollah Khomeini, and Abbas Musawi one year before. He returned to Lebanon and studied at the school of Abbas al-Musawi’s leader. Later, he was selected as Amal’s political delegate for Beqaa and made a member the central political office. Saddam Hussein executed Sadr around the same time in 1980.

Nasrallah became the leader of Hezbollah after the Israelis assassinated the previous leader, Musawi, in 1992. During Nasrallah’s leadership, Hezbollah acquired rockets with a longer range, which allowed them to strike at northern Israel despite the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon. In 1993 Israel carried out Operation Accountability. Much Lebanese infrastructure was destroyed during the operation, which Israel claimed was successful. An agreement was eventually reached whereby, Israel ended its attacks in Lebanon and Hezbollah agreed to stop attacks on northern Israel.
The 1975 Lebanese Civil War caused the family, which included Nasrallah, to relocate to their ancestral home of Bazourieh. There, Nasrallah received his secondary education at Sour (Tyre) in the public school. He attended secondary school there and joined briefly the Amal Movement, a Lebanese Shi’a party group.
