Harpo is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on April 5, 1950 in Bandhagen, Sweden. Jan Torsten Svensson (born 5 April 1950) is a Swedish pop musician. In Sweden and Europe, he was well-known for his hits “Moviestar”, and “Horoscope”, which reached number 24 on the UK Singles Chart. He also reached number 3 on the Australian Singles Chart in 1976. Harpo continues to be active in the music industry, having released an album of new material in 2005. He also continues to tour until this day. He is still very popular in Germany, having toured the country since 2007.
Harpo and Bengt Palmers, his wife, travelled to Los Angeles in 1977. The album The Hollywood Tapes was released, which led to the success of the single “Television”. Harpo also made headlines in 1977 when he refused participation in the Swedish Military Service. He was sentenced to one month in prison.
Harpo continued to record throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s. During 1985, he produced several Swedish groups including Shanghai, Suzzies Orkester and +1. In 1987, he set up his own record company, Igloo Records.
Harpo had an accident in August 1980. As well as being a musician, he is also a horse trainer and one of his horses, Starter, suddenly lashed out and kicked Harpo in the face several times. The injuries were so severe that Harpo lost his sense of smell and the sight in one eye. To show there were no hard feelings, Harpo dedicated his next album to his horse, Starter.
Harpo recorded “Moviestar” on 27 February 1975. Anni-Frid Lyngstad (Frida), from ABBA was one of the backing singers that day. Sometimes, it is believed that Agnetha Faltskog sang on the song. However, this is not true. Lena Ericsson is the second female singer. Frida sang backing vocals for the song “Pin Up Girl”, Harpo’s second album Harpo & Bananaband.

Harpo began his career as an actor in children’s theatre in the 1960s. He began to write songs while touring throughout Sweden. He signed a record contract with Polar Music in 1972. Anderson assigned him to Benny Andersson, and Bjorn Ulavaeus, as in-house record producers.
In 1973, Harpo’s first singles were “Honolulu”, and “Sayonara”. Both singles were huge hits and reached the Top Ten of the Tio-itopp chart. Between January 1974 and February 1974, “Sayonara”, held the number 1 spot for five weeks consecutively.
In 1978, Harpo revisited the songs he was originally going to work on with Andersson and Ulvaeus in 1972. The result was the children’s album Jan Banan och hans flygande matta. He followed this with an album of his favourite rock and roll songs. Both these projects were in the Swedish language.
