In 1997, he was known for his hit “Uhiki”, and a second album called “Nuting but de Stone”, which Tedd Josiah (Sync Sound Studios) produced. The album was released internationally by Kelele Records, a German-based company. Fiona Mungai, of Shadz O’blak, and Eric Wainaina were guest artists on the album. There were two versions of Uhiki on the album: one was his original and one was Pinye’s. This version includes samples from Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing. Hardstone was awarded the category of “Best new artist” at the 1997 Kisima Music Awards.
He also recorded “Ziwe Nkulu”, a second album, but it was not released after he moved to America in 1998. To further his career, he left Kenya and released “Hardstory” in 2003. Putumayo World Music released the song “Uhiki (Pinye’s remix)” on their 2003 compilation “African Groove”.
On 9 March 2015, he landed a recording deal with Atlantic Records, making him the first East African to sign for the label.
