Shridhir Sariputta Hansa (or ‘Hans’), Wijayasuriya, a Sri Lankan telecoms business executive, serves as the region CEO for the South Asian Region at Axiata Group Bhd. Asia’s second largest telecoms company. He was the group chief executive at Dialog Axiata PLC (Sri Lanka’s largest mobile communication provider) from 2012 to 2016. He was the founder and CEO of Axiata Digital Services (the pan- regional Digital Services arm) of the Axiata Group between 2012 and 2014.
Hans was a founding member of Dialog Axiata’s management team, and joined the company in 1994 as the fourth entry to Sri Lanka’s smartphone market. In 1997, he was appointed chief executive. Dialog is Asia’s leading provider of Digital Services and Quad Play connectivity.
The GSM Association, the trade group for the mobile industry, presented Hans with an award in June 2016. Hans was also named “Sri Lankan Of The Year” in 2008 by LMD, a local business magazine.

Hans is the son of P. M. W. Wijayasuriya (a former Auditor General for Sri Lanka) and Susila Wijayasuriya (a painter). Hans was educated at Mount Lavinia’s S. Thomas College. In 1989, he graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. In 1994, he received his PhD in Digital Mobile Communications at the University of Bristol. Wijayasuriya is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of The Institution of Engineering and Technology UK. He also holds an MBA from University of Warwick UK. He is the g-g grandson of Sir Charles Henry de Soysa.
Hans is a director of Axiata Group companies in the region. He also serves on the board of directors of John Keells Holdings PLC. and Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology. Hans was the past Chairman of GSM Asia-Pacific, the regional interest group of GSM Association. He has been inducted into the GSM 100 Role of Honour to acknowledge his contributions to the Asia-Pacific Telecommunications industry. Hans was a past Chairman of GSM Asia-Pacific, the Regional Interest Group of the GSM Association. He also served on the boards of the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) and the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology.
