Haller started the band Wind in 1985. Haller didn’t perform in the band’s concerts, but she wrote the song that has become the group’s signature song, “For All” (“Fur alle”). Wind was awarded second place in the Eurovision Song Contest that year for the song. She wrote songs for Daliah Levi, Elke Martens and Katja Ebstein. Rosanna Rocci was also discovered by her.

In 2008, it surfaced that she had been in a relationship with radio and TV hostess Ramona Leiss for four years beginning in the late 1980s.

She continued her studies to become a medical assistant, and she passed the “MTA” exam in 1970. After graduating from Georg-August University/Gottingen University, she worked in the biochemistry and X-ray labs. She began her musical journey in 1971. The single “Spring In Vietnam” (“Fruhling Vietnam”) was made by Georg Moslener, her producer. It didn’t get much attention. Haller began playing the piano and released her first album, “Applause For Hanne Haller”, in 1971. The album was never released because of bankruptcy.

Hanne Haller was born in Schleswig-Holstein. Her mother was an opera singer and her father was a banker. She played drums in “The Rooks”, a band from Ronnenberg, near Hannover, while in school. She graduated from high school in 1968 and went on to study athletics. However, she was diagnosed with a serious illness that forced her to stop. She also founded a gospel choir that year. In the 1960s, she performed a single containing two Siegfried Fietz songs (“Wir sind nur ein Minderheit”) and “Broadway” for the Christian publishing house Frohe Botschaft (“Good News”) in Wetzlar.

Haller went on to Munich, where she learned how to be a sound engineer. She was involved in many aspects of the business. She began to compose music at the end of 1970. She began under the pseudonym of “Hansi Echer”. Karel Gott sang “Where the Wind blows the Leaves” in 1978 (“Wohin der Wind die Blatter weht”) She had composed “60 Years and Not a Bit more” (“60 Jahren und kein bisschen weise”) before that for Curd Jurgens, an actor/singer. After several singles, she was able to perform in front of a larger audience in 1979. She sang “Goodbye, Cherie”, which was part of her Eurovision Song Contest German qualification. She finished seventh. She made many more recordings after that, mainly with Bernd Meinunger as the lyrics writer. Their song, “Samstag Abend”, reached number 11 on the German music charts. She and Meinunger started their own musical publishing company in 1982. Haller recorded songs in her own studio. Haller won her first “Golden Tuning Forks”, which is the German equivalent of the Grammy Awards.

She continued to write, produce and perform throughout the 80s and 90s despite battling breast cancer since the mid-90s. She died on November 15, 2005. After her death, her record company announced that a previously-planned album of religious music (“Wir sind nur Gast auf dieser Welt”/”We Are Only Guests of This World”) would be released.
