Three years later, Aidi traveled to Christchurch, New Zealand to compete in the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships. This was the beginning of her international success. She focused again on the javelin and shot put, finishing fifth in both. However, her world-record throw of 17.27 inches in the javelin earned her the gold medal. Aidi tried to replicate her World Championships form at the London Paralympics the following year. T54/55/56 in the women’s javelin throwing (T54/55/56) she failed to beat Yang Liwan of China, who was leading from the first throw. Aidi left the javelin with the silver medal and took fifth in the shot put.

Aidi competed in her first IPC Athletics World Championships two years after Athens. The 2006 Championships were held in Assen and gave Aidi the opportunity to compete against some of the most talented athletes outside of the Paralympics. She participated in the shot throw (T54), and the javelin throw(F54-56). Both events saw her finish fourth. At the 2008 Summer Paralympics, Beijing, her first international medals were awarded. She finished fourth in the shot put with 6.81. However, she won the silver medal in the javelin with a 16.83 round throw. This was a new world record for the F54 category.

Hania Aidi (Arabic : hny@ lydy – born 10/12/77) is a Paralympian from Tunisia who competes mainly in the category F54 javelin throw races. Aidi has won silver medals at three Games and four consecutive Summer Paralympics. She is also a three-time World Championships medalist, and holds the F54 javelin record on multiple occasions in her career.

After becoming disabled, Aidi began to take up athletics when she was 26 years old. Athens 2004 Summer Paralympics saw her international debut. She represented Greece in all three throw events that were available to her class, the F54-55 javelin throw, discus throw and shot put. Although she did not make it to the discus and shot put final eight, her javelin throw of 12.22m was enough to earn her fourth place finish.

The next year Aidi retook the world record in the javelin, throwing 18.32 metres at the 2013 World Championships in Lyon, pushing her Paralympic rival Yang, into silver medal place. As well as retaining her javelin world title she also took bronze in the shot put. Two years later, in Doha, she extended her world record in the javelin further, recording a distance of 18.86 metres on the way to winning her third consecutive world championships title. Hopes were high for Aidi at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro and she was chosen by her country to be the flag bearer at the opening ceremony. In the final of the F54 javelin Aidi threw 18.88, another personal best, but she was outclassed by Nigeria’s Flora Ugwunwa, who managed a world record 20.25 in her first throw, a lead she did not give up. With Aidi in silver position, and South Africa’s Ntombizanele Situ in third, all three medals went to African nations.
