Hamdi Makhlouf, (Arabic: Hmdy Mkhlwf), was born on (1980-06-04 ) 5 June 1980, Tunis. He is an oud player and singer, as well as a composer, musicologist, and composer. Hamdi Makhlouf studies jazz and world music. His research interests are in the intersection of musical creation and Arabic modern composer.

Hamdi Makhlouf completed his doctoral thesis at Paris-Sorbonne University. He has been a speaker at several conferences since 2006, including the European Congress of Music Analysis in Freiburg im Breisgau in October 2007, IDEAT in Paris, the seminar at University of Paris-1 Pantheon-Sorbonne, and the Interdisciplinary Congress of Musicology, in collaboration with Amine Beyhom, Lebanese musician.

In 2008, Hamdi Makhlouf recorded Pages nocturnes, an Arabic song inspired by contemporary jazz, which was included in Arabia Nights 4 published by EMI Music, a compilation of several famous artists of the Arab world.

In 2011 Maklouf returned as a headline performer to the twelfth Festival of Music, again held at the Arab World Institute.

He began a series solo concerts at the Cite Internationale Universitaire de Paris upon his arrival in France. He was introduced to Wajdi Cherif, a Tunisian composer and pianist, and toured with him at several concerts and festivals in France between 2004 and 2006.

He also joined the Higher Institute of Music, Sfax in the same year and began studying musicology and music production. He continued his studies with Wahid Triki, an oud master, and graduated with an instrumental qualification in 2003. During his student years, he composed solo pieces for oud, and interpreted many compositions by oud players such as Jamil Bashir and Munir Bashir. He was awarded the Presidential Prize in July 2003 by Tunisia for his achievements in the arts, crafts and industry.

He performed several concerts with professional musicians and jazzmen such as tabla drummer Philippe Foch, pianists Mohamed Ali Kammoun and Vincent Lendower, bassists Saubidet Juan and Leonardo Teruggi, violinist Zied Zouari and drummer Abdesslem Gherbi. These programs were presented during many Festivals such as Musicians from Tunisia, at the palace of Baron d’Erlanger in Sidi Bou Said, in 2008, at the Egyptian Cultural Center in Paris in 2009 and 2010, and at the Instrumental Music week in Tunis in 2010.
