Hakuba Takeshi is one of the most popular and richest Rikishi who was born on May 5, 1983 in Töv Province, Mongolia. Hakuba Takeshi (Bai Ma Yi), born May 5, 1983, is a former sumo wrestling champion from Ulan Bator. He joined the professional sport in 2000 and entered the top division in 2008. He returned in 2010. His highest rank was Komusubi. After being found guilty of match-fixing by the Japan Sumo Association, he was forced to quit sumo.

Hakuba’s mai 2010 basho was his most successful to date. He won ten matches at his highest rank and beat Kotooshu and Harumafuji, a fellow Mongolian fighter. This was his first fight against an ozeki. He was promoted to komusubi in July 2010, becoming the first Tatsutagawa stable member to achieve the titled san’yaku ranks, and the first Michinoku stablemaster since 1997 (former ozeki Kirishima). In his komusubi debut, he managed only four wins.

Japan’s tabloids had suggested that Hakuba was in a romantic relationship with several celebrities, including Nozomi Sasaki, a glamour model. He then announced publicly in January 2010, that he had married Nozomi Sasaki, the younger sister of fellow Mongolian rikishi Tokitenku. The ceremony was held at Tokyo’s Metropolitan Hotel on June 18, 2011. Hakuba also performed his retirement ceremony, danpatsushiki. He had a daughter in November 2008.

Ariunbayar Unurjargal didn’t have any sports background. His aunt, who lived in Japan, had an acquaintance who knew Tatsutagawa’s coach. He was encouraged by his aunt to visit Japan to try it out. Hakuba was originally to be a part of another stable in the same Ichimon, Michinoku. His own stable would soon be disbanded due to his impending retirement. At the time Hakuba entered Tatsutagawa in January 2000, Michinoku had already set a limit for foreign wrestlers. Hakuba was allowed to rejoin Tatsutagawa, but he had to agree to join Michinoku if Tatsutagawa was closed down. This happened in September 2000. Michinoku’s support group chose his shikona, or fighting name. It combines the character that means “white” in sumo terminology with the character that means “horse”, which is an emotive Mongolian image.

He won the jonidan championship or yusho just one year after he entered sumo. This was the first title his stable had ever had. He struggled for many years in the middle division ranks after that. He was finally promoted to juryo in January 2007 after a string of successes in 2006. This culminated in the makushita champion in the final tournament of 2006. Although he never fell below the rank of makuuchi again, he was promoted to juryo in January 2007. His climb to makuuchi was second-slowest after Sentoryu. He made his second appearance in makuuchi, at the highest rank yet of maegashira 14, in January

2010. He was able to secure his kachi-koshi on Day 10, finishing on 9-6. He was promoted to maegashira 9, the highest rank he has ever achieved, in March. He won another record and was promoted to maegashira 5, for the May tournament.

Hakuba was one of 23 wrestlers found guilty of fixing the result of bouts after an investigation by the Japan Sumo Association, and he was forced to retire in April 2011.
