Hajime Tabata (Tian Tian Duan / Tabata Hajime) is a Japanese director of games. He was previously the Head of Studio and COO of Luminous Productions and was also the CEO of JP Games. He was part of the Final Fantasy Committee, which is responsible for ensuring consistency in the content and releases of Square Enix’s business division 2.
Tabata, who is also the COO and Head of Studio for Square Enix’s Tokyo studio, created Luminous Productions. This new studio includes several members of the Final Fantasy XV Team. Tabata was the Head of Studio and COO for Luminous Productions.
Tabata resigned from Luminous Productions and Square Enix Group on October 31, 2018.
With the announcement of his resignation from Square Enix, Tabata announced that he will be starting his own company, JP Games, Inc. to launch in January 2019, to create a new project.

Square Enix was inspired by the support shown for Japan in the aftermath of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake to publish fan letters. These letters informed Square Enix about Type-0’s upcoming release and encouraged Tabata and others to create something special for those who are going through difficult times.
He was appointed director of Final Fantasy XV in December 2013. This took Tetsuya Namura’s place. The change was announced in September 2014. He was once co-director of the project. Tabata made a joke about his hectic schedule while working on Final Fantasy XV. He said that he often slept only three hours a night. Tabata, who previously worked with portable gaming devices, said he was excited to work on console systems, and help players “dig deeper into their experiences”.
When Tabata was in Middle school, he played a historical role-playing game made by Koei and first imagined how much fun it would be to make his own game. In his last year of university, he applied for jobs in the video game industry and in other media arts such as documentaries, television and film. He worked at several different video game publishers prior to his being hired at Square Enix, which he said gave him experience making action games, arcade games, and role-playing games. On November 7, 2018 it was announced that he has departed from Square Enix.
