Haim Amsalem is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on October 12, 1959 in Oran, Algeria. Rabbi Haim (Emile) Amsalem (Hebrew Hayiym (Aemiyl) Aamsalem; born 12 Oct 1959) is an Israeli politician. He was a former member the Knesset. After a dispute with his former party Shas he founded the Am Shalem party in order to run for the 2013 Knesset election. However, he failed to win any seats.
Amsalem joined Zehut in February 2019 and was offered the #2 position on the Zehut list.
Amsalem, a founding member of Shas was first elected to Knesset in 2006. He was re-elected in 2009. Amsalem was founded his own party after he left Shas. The new party failed to reach the electoral threshold of 2 percent in the 2013 elections. Amsalem lost his Knesset seat. The Yeshiva World News website reported on 15 September 2014 that Amsalem would run in the forthcoming elections for the position of Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem.

Amsalem was the son of Freha and David Amsalem who immigrated from Morocco to Oran, French Algeria. His family moved to Lyon in France when he was six months of age. He grew up there until his eleventh birthday. The family moved to Israel in 1970. He attended the “Kisseh Rahim” Yeshiva, where he was ordained in 1980 as a rabbi and served as Head of Yeshiva (“RAM”) during his graduation. He was certified as a rabbinical lawyer representative (“to’en Rabbani”) in 1990. In 1993, he was ordained as a City Rabbi by Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the Chief Rabbin of Israel.
He married Hannah in 1982. Hannah is the granddaughter of Rabbi Nissim Cohen (Av Beit Din, Djerba), Tunisia. He was rabbi at the Sharsheret Moshav for seven year after his marriage. He was also a Netivot neighborhood rabbi, Head of Yeshiva “Ohalei Yaakov ve Tifereth Israeli” and Head of the kollel “Baba Sali” in the city. He then moved to Jerusalem’s Har Nof neighborhood and founded the “Shirei David” Kollel, named after his father. He was appointed later as the rabbi for the Sephardic Jewish community “Heichal Haness”, in Geneva, Switzerland. This position he held until he was elected to the Knesset.
