Ha Seung-Jin, a South Korean professional basketball player, was born August 4, 1985. In the 2004 NBA Draft, he was the 46th overall draft pick of the Portland Trail Blazers. He was 7 feet 3 inches tall and 305 lb. He was one of the NBA’s largest players. He was also the first and only South Korean player in the NBA, as of 2020.
Later, Ha played professional basketball in South Korea with the KCC Jeonju team. They won the Korean Basketball League (KBL), championships in 2009. Ha represented South Korea’s national basketball team at the 2009 FIBA Asia Championship and 2010 Asian Games. He also participated in the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship.
Ha was a high schooler at Samil Commercial School in Seoul, South Korea, and he also attended college at Yonsei University, Seoul. In 2004, Ha moved to Los Angeles, California to prepare for the 2004 NBA Draft. In his senior year of high school, Ha played seven tournament games for the Yonsei basketball club. He averaged 12.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game and 1.6 blocks. Yonsei won national championship. He briefly played with the Portland Reign (ABA). In the middle of 2004-05, Ha signed with the Portland Trail Blazers. He played in 19 games during that season, an average of 5.5 minutes per match. However, on April 20, against the Los Angeles Lakers he scored 13 points, which was a record for Ha. This helped the Trail Blazers win their first ever championship. Ha was assigned to the NBA D-League Fort Worth Flyers in 2005-06. He played five games, but didn’t make an impact. Ha played four games and averaged 11 minutes per game, when Joel Przybilla and Joel Ratliff, fellow Blazer center, were injured.
