Guy Davidi (Hebrew: gyA Dvydy ; born July 9th 1978) is an Israeli Academy Award nominee documentary filmmaker. His film 5 Broken Cameras was nominated for the 2013 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Davidi was also awarded his Best Directing Award along with Palestinian co-director Emad Burnat at 2012. Sundance Film Festival and the 2013 international Emmy Award as well as many other awards across the world.

The in the exact same year Davidi has also launched his first feature film that was full length, Interrupted Streams, which was jointly produced and directed by Davidi and Alexandre Goetschmann. The film focuses on the availability of drinking water in Bil’in, a Palestinian town of Bil’in, and explores the effects of water scarcity on the lives of the villager. It was awarded the David Silver Award at the 2011 Jewish Film Festival in Warsaw and was awarded the Best Documentary at the Jerusalem Film Festival and the Cinema South Festival in Israel.

At the end of 2011, Davidi released his second feature-length film, 5 Broken Cameras, a joint Israeli-Palestinian-French production in cooperation with Israel’s Channel 8 as well as TV channels in France and the Netherlands. This film was based upon six years of footage shot by photographer Emad Burnat, who is a local of Bil’in. The film documents the struggle of the village against the building of the separation wall from the perspective of Burnat and the consequences of the battle on his family life and personal life. The film was greeted with worldwide acclaim. It won the World Cinema Directing Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012 and The Special Broadcaster IDFA Audience Award and the Special Jury Award at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in 2011. The 2012 Audience Award at the Sheffield Doc/Fest festival, the 2013 international Emmy Award as well as more than 10 other awards across the globe. Films were distributed to numerous television stations, and was screened in cinemas around the globe which included that of the United States, Canada, England, France, and Japan. The film was shown in the 2012 Jerusalem Film Festival and the 2012 Israeli Cinema South Festival, which was the venue where it received the Juliano Mer Prize. It was also nominated for the field of Best Documentary at the Academy Awards and was screened alongside the other Israeli movie, The Gatekeepers. Davidi caused controversy when his comments when he spoke to Israeli TV that “he does not represent Israel, only himself” at the Oscars.
