In the latter half of the 1980s and into the early the 1990s Kuitca was able to combine the topics of topography and architecture in his work, often focusing on the interplay between private and communal spaces. From 1992 onwards, Kuitca made his initial paintings that featured the image of a bed that was painted “often small and lonely on canvas.” Then Kuitca used the idea of an apartment floor planthat was modest and compact, and with just one bathroom. The floor plan would later lead to theater plans, maps as well as baggage carts.
In the 1980s, especially in the early and mid-1980s, Kuitca made works which include theater-related imagery. Many of the paintings from this period depict figures sitting on a stage platform, and titles that are often in the style of music, literature, or plays.
