The birthplace of his father was Casola within Lunigiana, Italy, on November 8th in 1950. He earned his doctorate in physics in 1975 from the university in Pisa, Italy where he became a professor in the year 1992. Since 1976, he has been working in the field of high-energy physics, and is a participant as a researcher in CERN experiments NA1 NA7, NA1 and ALEPH as well as within the CDF experiment at Fermilab, Batavia (IL-USA). His contributions include the first precise measurements of the life span of mesons that are charmed, high- precision testing on the Standard Model of the fundamental interactions, the search to find an Higgs boson, and several signatures of Supersymmetry, or new physics outside that of the Standard Model.

In light of this discovery, on October 8, 2013, it was announced that the Nobel Prize in Physics 2013 was awarded to Francois Englert and Peter Higgs with the motivation “for the theoretical discovery of a mechanism that contributes to our understanding of the origin of mass of subatomic particles, and which recently was confirmed through the discovery of the predicted fundamental particle, by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider”.

On the 13th of December in 2011, along and Fabiola Gianotti, ATLAS Spokesperson at the time, he gave a special session held at CERN that was the initial evidence of the Higgs boson, which is surrounded by an area in the 125 GeV/c range. The 125GeV signal is again visible in the data that was taken in spring 2012 and by combining the 7 TeV data from 2011 along with the 8TeV 2012 data the value of the signal has reached the standard 5 sigma threshold that is required for announcing a breakthrough. So the 4th of July 2012 researchers from both the ATLAS and CMS experiments officially announce the discovery of a brand new Higgs-like boson LHC.
