Gregory Frux was born in Brooklyn, New York, on the 25th of March in 1958. He was the son of an engineer, and later a school teacher, who immigrated to Lvov, Poland in August 1939. His mother was a grade math teacher at school, and then taught adults literacy. Through their lessons and example that Frux discovered his love for art and his hometown city. Gregory Frux married artist Janet Ellen Morgan in the year 1990.

Frux is a huge fan of the wild, both visually and as a mountaineer. His climbing experience has merged with his creative work in increasingly remote places. Frux has been an artist-in-residence at four national parks areas: Weir Farm National Historic Site located in Wilton, Connecticut; Glacier National Park; Joshua Tree National Park; Death Valley National Park along with Mount Washington Observatory. Frux has been the very first artist-in- residence at Mount Washington Observatory, White Mountains New Hampshire and also held an exhibition there following his stay. He has created paintings on his native New Hampshire in the Rocky Mountains, Andes, Sierra Nevada, and Mojave Desert and has painted “portraits” of important peaks like Cerro Fitzroy Sajama as well as Lotus Flower Tower. The paintings have been placed in the collections that is part of the National Park Service and exhibited by the American Alpine Club. In December 2007, Frux traveled as an artist on the ship cruise Orlova on The Antarctic Peninsula; his paintings of “Half Moon Bay, South Shetland Islands” were published as prints. He was an artist on the ship “Midnatsol” in Arctic Norway between November and December 2009.

While working as a member of working for the Board of Education, Frux completed his Master of Fine Arts from Brooklyn College in 1986. He studied alongside the renowned realist Lennart Anderson. After completing his studies at Carrara, Italy, in 1984, he began dedicating himself to painting outdoors. Frux was most active within Lower Manhattan; along the East River; and in Brooklyn’s Park Slope, Coney Island as well as the Gowanus Canal areas, painting at the scene using oils. Frux is extremely interested in cityscapes that are portrayed in the repurposed and abandoned buildings along with industrial architecture and the revival of nature in the harbor. His cityscapes have garnered recognition by exhibiting on Brooklyn Borough Hall, Brooklyn College and Brooklyn College, the Coney Island Museum, Long Island University and The Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Library, The Tabla Rasa Gallery and a commission from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
