Grant has the father of Del Hayunga, a businessman along with Jean Meyer Hayunga, a public health nurse and home maker. He has a brother named Blake Hayunga, is a developer and real estate manager located in San Francisco. Hayunga’s parents relocated to New York City] in the year 1970 to begin their careers. They later moved into New Jersey, then Minnesota and Minnesota, in which Hayunga was a student at St. Paul Academy. The family relocated from Minnesota to Louisville, Kentucky in the mid-1980s. He was a student at Ballard High School and first formed his own group, Goshen. Since the initial group, Goshen has had a changing cast with the exception of the current group which includes Hayunga Elizabeth DeCicco, Jim Palmer on drums, and Jason Reed on bass.

In 2006, Hayunga had begun work on his 6th album Lioness in collaboration with the Palmer brothers from Santa Fe. The cover features Hayunga’s composition “Lioness” from The Red Peyote Series.

Hayunga’s 2008 solo show with Linda Durham Contemporary Art was entitled Tree Skeletons. This was an evolution of his earlier series, Ojo de la Tierra, and his final show with the gallery. After two decades, Hayunga moved on from Linda Durham Contemporary Art to LAUNCHPROJECTS with Cyndi Conn and Ben Lincoln.

Grant David Hayunga, (born on June 23, 1970) is a famous American artist and musician from Frisian origin.

Hayunga studied at Hayunga’s school, the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) through merit scholarships at Providence, Rhode Island. He began selling paintings prior to his graduation after which he relocated into Santa Fe, New Mexico which is where he was a part of Linda Durham Contemporary Art. His first solo exhibition in collaboration with Linda Durham was in 1993. His next solo exhibition was held at Gallery De Praktijk in Amsterdam and was entitled “The Red Peyote Papers”.

After the release of Lioness, Hayunga embarked on a new project that was to be released in 2009, The Como Sessions: Volume 1. The new album was produced by James “Jimbo” Mathus of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Buddy Guy and Knockdown South. It was recorded at Delta Recording Service in Como, Mississippi on November 11, 2008. With the exception of Elizabeth DeCicco on vocals, Hayunga used musicians from The Hill Country including Jimbo Mathus (guitar, piano, Wurlitzer organ, mandolin, drums, percussion and vocals), Corey Jenkins (drums), Justin Showah (engineer and bass) of Afrissippi and Chad Smith (Wurlitzer organ).
