It was there that as a child he began to learn how to play the traditional Japanese drums. The fascination with drumming led him into the world of music and he emigrated into Tokyo around 1982, to be part of a reggae/dub group that was later dubbed Mute Beat. Alongside Mute Beat band member Kazufumi Kodama the two worked on various projects, and eventually formed the duo Kodama and Gota.
He released his first album in 1997. debuted his debut album outside of America. United States titled It’s So Different Here. The album’s hit single was the top Smooth Jazz single for the entire year. The album reached No. 15 on the Billboard 200, and No. one on the R&R chart. He also aided Depeche Mode in the studio in 1997, making an appearance on their highly anticipated the album of 1997 Ultra. Gota was later involved in the production of Simply Red’s album, titled Blue the next year in 1998. He then lent his assistance to the following album’s launch in 1999. Love along with The Russian Winter. The band has released two albums during 1999: one titled Let’s Start Started and the second entitled Day & Night. In 1999, he also worked with English singer- songwriter Mike Oldfield in his album The Millennium Bell, in the song titled “Mastermind” as the drummer. The album The Best of Gota was released in 2002. the duo worked on a joint album together with Freemasons band member as well as British music producer James Wiltshire called B.E.D. (Beyond every Definition) during the beginning of 2000. In 2004, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of FIFA the group made some changes to the anthem written by Franz Lambert in 1994 and is the song that has been played in all FIFA official sanctioned games from that point on.
In March 2008, Gota formed the rock band Vitamin-Q along with Masami Tsuchiya, Kazuhiko Kato, Rei Ohara and Anza. However, after Kato’s suicide on 17 October 2009, the fate of the group is uncertain.
Gota was a member of Simply Red in 1991 for the recording of the album Stars and the subsequent world tour. In the late year of 1993, he debuted an album entitled Somethin’ to Talk About under the name Gota and The Heart of Gold, and was a part of his fellow Simply Red band member Heitor T.P. release his own album in 1994. In 1994, while collaborating with a variety of European artists as well as an album from the singer and songwriter Chris Braide, he recorded an album under the name Gota The Low Dog in 1995, along with singer Warren Dowd. The album, titled Live Wired Electro, was released in a variety of countries, and featured Gota to his very first Japanese tour. Alanis Morissette has credited Gota with the title “Groove Activator” on her album Jagged Little Pill, for where samples from his works were utilized. Additionally, UK dance act Chicane employed his drum tracks particularly when they performed their Chicane Mix from the Bryan Adams song Cloud Number Nine.

Gota Yashiki (Wu Fu Hao Tai, Yashiki Gota 26th February, 1962) is a Japanese musician, who is also an individual acid jazz artist as well as a drummer/bassist, and part of the group Simply Red.
From 1986, Gota entered the European music scene. After a brief period in Tokyo He returned back to London in 1988, and started collaboration with many famous artists, such as Soul II Soul, Sinead O’Connor, and Seal and also worked on film soundtracks and remixes.
In 2006, he was part of a special unit called Kokua with Shikao Suga, Takebe Satoshi, Takamune Negishi and Hirokazu Ogura to sing Progress, the theme song of NHK’s Professional Shigoto no Ryuugi (プロフェッショナル 仕事の流儀 , known overseas as The Professionals) . They reunited in 2016 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the single, making an album, Progress, and having a Nationwide tour.
