Gnana Rajasekaran (born on the 23rd of January, 1953) is an Indian screenwriter, filmmaker playwright, playwright and retired IAS Officer. His debut as a director is Mogamul (1994) was awarded the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film by an Director. Other films are Bharathi (2000), Periyar (2007) and Ramanujan (2014). In 2014, Rajasekaran had been awarded the award for three National Film Awards, three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. The films he has made have also been shown in international festivals, including The International Film Festival of India.

Rajasekaran was also director on several short films like Oru Kan, Oru Parvai (1999, Tamil), Vivaram Onum Ariyam (Malayalam), Puthia Keralam (Malayalam) and Kanavu Nijamagum (Tamil 2007).

Rajasekaran’s debut feature, Mogamul (1995), is based on a book written by the writer Thi. Janakiraman. The film received it the Indira Gandhi Prize for the Best Debut Film of Director during the 42nd National Film Awards and the Special Jury Award for Best film at the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. He was able to direct in the film starring Nassar Mugam (1999) which was a failure, the film receiving low reviews and performing poorly at the box-office. Bharathi (2000) is a biographical film about The Tamil poet and poet Subramanya Bharathi. The film featured Marathi actor Sayaji Shinde and Devayani. The film was awarded 4 National Film Awards and six Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. Periyar (2007) was biopic about E.V.Ramaswamy is a documentary that focuses on the background of the Dravidian movement, combining a number of instances from the period. The film was narrated by Satyaraj along with Kushboo Sundar. It was awarded the Best Feature Film in Tamil at the 48th National Film Awards and was presented at several International film festivals. The film, Ramanujan (2014) is a biographical movie inspired by the personal life and work of Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. The film was met with mixed critiques from critics.
