In the initial Bunkerville standoff in the year 2017, Navarro declared a mistrial after a jury found two men of certain of the charges in the indictment. The jury also stated that the trial was “hopelessly deadlocked” on the remaining cases. She scheduled retrials of defendants in the trial for which no verdict was made and the trials of the remaining 11 defendants were scheduled for June 26th to July 26, 2017. On the 22nd of August 2017 the remaining four defendants were found not guilty and released after being detained without bail since the year 2016. On January 8, 2018 the judge Navarro dismissed the the remaining suspects “with prejudice”, meaning they would not be tried again on similar charges. Navarro determined that both the prosecution and FBI did not give evidence that was exculpatory to the defense and therefore had breached the “universal sense of justice” to the extent that nothing other than dismissal of the case was proper.
In September of 2009 Senator. Harry Reid contacted Navarro to inquire about her potential to serve as a judge on the bench of federal judges. Following a video-conference interview with Reid the senator informed Navarro that on the 22nd of September, 2009 that he was going to recommend that she be recommended to President Obama to consider serving as judge of the United States District Court for the District of Nevada. The 24th of December, 2009 Obama officially nominated Navarro to fill the vacancy which was created following an resignation by the judge Brian Sandoval. On March 4 2010 the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary decided to forward Navarro’s name to the full Senate to be considered. On May 5, 2010 on May 5, 2010, the United States Senate voted 98-0 to approve Navarro for her position as judge. She was appointed on May 6 in 2010. The 1st of January, 2014 Navarro was appointed to succeed Robert Clive Jones as Chief Judge. She was Chief Judge until September 2019.
