Gilles Saint-Paul (born 8 February 1963) is an French economics professor at Toulouse 1 University Social Sciences. He is also a scientist adviser of the Economic Studies Directorate at the French Ministry of the Environment. His main research interests revolve around the economics of unemployment, and the impact of technology on wage inequalities.
He was awarded the Yrjo Jahnsson Award from the European Economic Association in 2007.
The author has written four books, and written numerous articles in the most prestigious journals. This includes a variety of path cutting articles on the social and economic aspects of reforms to the labour market. He is an CEPR Research Fellow and has been the Director of the CEPR Labour Economics Programme since 2001.

In addition to receiving engineering diplomas from Ecole Polytechnique in 1985 and the Ecole des Ponts et Chaussees in 1987, Saint Paul graduated with master’s degrees with applied mathematics at Paris-Dauphine university. Saint- Paul obtained his Ph.D. in economics in 1990 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, guided by Olivier Blanchard and Michael Piore.
Professor of economics, he taught in ENSAE ParisTech from 1990 to 1997, and in Pompeu Fabra University from 1997 until 2000. He has been a professor at the Paris School of Economics since the year 2006. He is also the Global Professor of Economics at NYU Abu Dhabi.
