Gilbert Thomas Patterson (born September 5 1955) is a Minor League pitching coordinator and former pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the New York Yankees in its 1977 season. Patterson was out of the game by 1983, even though there was hope for the possibility of a comeback. He was hired to park cars at a restaurant located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he would throw left-handed at the walls after the restaurant had closed. The Yankees chose Patterson at the beginning of the round (7th selection) from the 1975 MLB Draft out of Miami Dade Community College located in Miami, FL. As a rookie of 19 years old, he was immediately assigned to the Class low-A Oneonta Yankees, where he recorded an 8-4 record, an 1.95 ERA and one shutout in 14 games (13 starts) and his 97 strikeouts during 106.0 innings pitched were the best in for the NY-Penn League. In between, when arm problems jeopardized Leiter’s career, Patterson rebuilt the delivery of his longtime friend and neighbor, as Leiter rejuvenated his career and kept pitching until he was 40 years old.
