Gilbert Thomas Patterson (born September 5 1955) is a Minor League pitching coordinator and former pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the New York Yankees in its 1977 season. He was listed as 6′ 1″ and 185 pounds., Patterson batted and threw right handed.

In 2005, Patterson rejoined the Yankees and worked as pitching coach for Triple-A Columbus Clippers, being reassigned to the GCL Yankees from 2006 to

2007. Patterson had asked for the assignment to work in the Gulf Coast minor league farm team, where there are no overnight trips and the schedule allowed him to be home by the late afternoon. At that time, Patterson decided he had to stay home to be close to his 7-year-old son, who had been diagnosed with Tourette syndrome, a condition of the nervous system characterized by involuntary, uncontrolled movements and vocalizations called tics.

Patterson started his career in Syracuse before signing with the Yankees in April. Patterson soon felt a pop feeling in his hand. It was able to fool people for a time but, in the end in the words of his father, was aware that it was not going to become the same. Patterson was only able to pitch in 10 games in New York in the season which ended with an ERA of 1-2. an 5.40 ERA. The Yankees chose Patterson at the beginning of the round (7th selection) from the 1975 MLB Draft out of Miami Dade Community College located in Miami, FL. In between, when arm problems jeopardized Leiter’s career, Patterson rebuilt the delivery of his longtime friend and neighbor, as Leiter rejuvenated his career and kept pitching until he was 40 years old.
