Gianpiero Marini (Italian pronunciation: [dZam’pje’ro ma’ri’ni] ; born on February 25, 1951) is an Italian former professional manager and player who was midfielder. A tough and dedicated defensive midfielder Marini was a player for a variety of Italian clubs during his time including Internazionale where he was awarded the Serie A title and two Coppa Italia titles in his 11 years at the club. On the international stage Marini played for Italy for 20 times from 1980 to 1983 and was part of the squad which took home in 1982 the FIFA World Cup.
As a manager Marini also served as a coach at Internazionale and was the winner of the UEFA Cup in 1994, in addition to Como, Cremonese, and the Italy B team.
As a coach Marini also coached Internazionale in the years 1993-94 in which he was the winner of the UEFA Cup in 1994, even though he narrowly avoided relegation from the league. He also served as a coach at Como in two separate occasions (1997 and 1999-2000) in addition to Cremonese (1997-99) as well as the Italy B team in 2001.
