Gianfranco Fini is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 3, 1952 in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The mother of his father, Erminia Marani (Ferrara 1926 – Rome 2008) was the sister of Antonio Marani, who took part with Italo Balbo during the march towards Rome which marked the beginning of fascism 1922. Gianfranco was the name given to him. Gianfranco was chosen as a tribute to the memory of a close relative, who was murdered at the age of 20 old by partisans just following the liberation of Northern Italy on April 25 1945.

A few years after, the family relocated together with family members to Rome. In August of 1976, he began his military duty in Savona before settling in Rome as a member of Rome’s Ministry of Defence. In 1977, he was elected the national secretary of Fronte della Gioventu, chosen by Giorgio Almirante, secretary of the party now calling it “MSI – Destra Nazionale”. Fini was fifth out of seven candidates in the national secretariat for the youth.

Fini was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies on 26 June 1983 as a member of the MSI. Re-elected in 1987, in September he was nominated by Almirante to be his successor as the party’s secretary.

Giorgio Almirante died in May 1988, and at the party’s congress in Sorrento that year, Fini defeated the right wing of the party, headed by Pino Rauti, and was elected party secretary. He remained in the national secretariat of the MSI until January 1990, when at the next party congress in Rimini, Pino Rauti was elected secretary. But in July 1991, after a tough electoral defeat in administrative and regional elections in Sicily, Fini returned to his role as party secretary. He held this post until the dissolution of party in 1995.

Gianfranco Fini was a student at “Laura Bassi” high school in Bologna. The first time he was involved in politics came in 1968 Fini was just 16 years old. Fini took part in battles with communists, among his protests before a theater against the showing of the John Wayne movie The Green Berets. In the same year Fini was involved in his own group, Italian Social Movement (MSI) which was a neo-fascist political group.
