Obaro Ejimiwe (18 January 1983) is a British singer, songwriter , and musician best known for the stage name Ghostpoet. The first album he released, Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam was shortlisted in 2011 for the Mercury Prize. The album released in 2015 Shedding Skin was also nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. After the release of the fourth studio album Dark Days + Canapes, on 18 August 2017. The album he released in his fifth studio album, I Get Tired, But Dare Not Fall Asleep released on May 1st, 2020.
Ghostpoet’s initial track “Cash & Carry Me Home” was released on the 24th of January, 2011. Then came the debut album on the 7th of February 2011. Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam. His track “Survive It” was launched at the Rough Trade East Record store located in the London’s Brick Lane on 9 May 2011.
His third album, Shedding Skin, was released on 2 March 2015. The album featured guest appearances by Nadine Shah, Etta Bond, Mélanie De Biasio, Lucy Rose and Paul Smith. The album was shortlisted for the 2015 Mercury Prize.
In 2016 Ghostpoet curated the West Balkans edition of the British Council’s interactive music project Mix The City, travelling around the region to record samples with various local musicians, and creating his own mix for the region.
He performed in 2011 and performed with Metronomy as well as Jamie Woon on their tours and also performed in the venues of Glastonbury, Sonar, Latitude, Secret Garden Party and Bestival among others.
