In 2006, he was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease. This led to his retirement in 2007 at turning 50. In the wake of this drastic transformation in his life he was active in Support groups for Parkinson’s patients throughout Austria (Parkinson Selbsthilfe Steiermark) and New South Wales (Parkinson’s NSW Inc.) and despite his condition, was elected AOWB director in the year 2010. Along with Viennese neurologists Dr. Wilibald Gerschlager, he established his own Austrian Parkinson’s Forum Parkinsonberatung and operated it from June 2007 until January 2011. He also created in the following months it was launched as a Facebook page and an Twitter microblog of the umbrella organization Parkinson Selbsthilfe Osterreich. On Skype he launched Parkinsonline-related IM groups in the month of August of 2010. In Sydney the group was a part of an inside city group of support. He relocated in Austria in 2013 and was elected the first president of the Austrian Parkinson’s society, PON in 2014. He also is an author of Dr. Gerschlager’s Parkinson’s Disease book.
