The result was that he was contracted to Island Records and culminating in the release of his debut album The Chicken and the Egg to great acclaim. But, Mpanga felt constrained by the art form, and he decided to quit the rap game, and quit his record label prior to the debut release. Mpanga then turned to performing poetry and started an audio podcast titled George’s Podcast?
In March 2018 , it was revealed that Mpanga was elected an elected member of the National Council of Arts Council England. In June of 2018 it was brought to the media’s notice that Mpanga was arrested and searched by the police in an incident that was recorded on video. Mpanga began his segment on BBC report on the wedding ceremony of Prince Harry as well as Megan Markle, by reading an ode to love. He also appeared two times in Question Time. In the year 2019 Mpanga declined the chance to be made an MBE in protest of concerns about the British Imperial treatment of the country of birth, Uganda.

Mpanga is the son of Ugandan parents living on St Raphael’s Estate in Neasden north-west London. His maternal grandma was an Ugandan political figure and ex- minister of the cabinet Joyce Mpanga. He started doing rap and grime when he was just 15 years old. He was a student at Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet, a prestigious grammar school between 2002 and 2009. He later studied Sociology, Politics, and Psychology in King’s College, Cambridge (2010-2013) in which he made the decision to translate his rap material into poetry in order to better communicate with his listeners. Mpanga stated “I think rappers are primarily expected to make money for the industry and provide party soundtracks, but obviously there are exceptions and grey areas. The poet’s ‘role’ is usually to provide thoughtful social commentary.”
In the course of his studies, Mpanga won a social enterprise contest run through Barclays as well as Channel 4 called The Stake and asked contestants to decide how much they would spend on 100,000 pounds. He used the prize of $16,000 to finance The Jubilee Line, a series of poetry workshops at secondary schools for children who are not privileged in London. He began his journey in the month of May 2012. debuted the film “My City”, about his hometown of London. Then, BBC Radio 1 selected him to be the persona for their Hackney Weekend (in June 2012) as well as Sky Sports F1 commissioned him to write poetry to accompany its coverage of 2012’s Formula One season and the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix. In July 2014 Consumer watchdog organization Which? came out with the single “It’s Yours”, a collaboration with producer Jakwob in the course of a campaign to lobby to the UK Government to improve their responses to complaints about public services. “My City” was adapted as a musical collaboration with dance music producers Bodhi and Bodhi, and it was released as a single in August 2014. The band Mpanga debuted an EP The Chicken and the Egg and the single “1,2,1,2” (once again with Bodhi) The release was described by the earlier single as “about the premature birth of a child. Through the tale of a turbulent relationship, it explores how fatherlessness can affect a family through seven songs.” Vice magazine wrote that the EP “showcases one of the strongest lyrical performances that the year has seen to date”.
In 2018, Mpanga was elected to be a Member of the National Council of Arts for Arts Council England. Have You Heard George’s Podcast? won five awards at the 2019 British Podcast Awards, including “Podcast of the Year”, and was nominated for a Peabody Award.
