George Friederich Sherrill (born April 19th 1977) is an American former professional baseball relief pitcher. Sherrill played for Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Seattle Mariners, Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Atlanta Braves from 2004 through 2012. The pitcher was named an MLB All-Star in 2008.
In 2007 Sherrill recorded career-best numbers in 2007, with her batting average of sub-2.00 ERA for most of the season. Following the injury in 2006 of Mark Lowe, and the transfer for Rafael Soriano during the offseason, Sherrill became the primary player in the setup to Mariners closer J. J. Putz.
On July 6, 2008, Sherrill was named as one of the closing pitchers to represent the American League in the 2008 All-Star Game. In his first All-Star game appearance, Sherrill struck out two batters and gave up one hit over 2⁄3 innings. He pitched part of the 12th, and all of the 13th and 14th innings in the record-setting 15 inning game.
On February 8, 2008, Sherrill was traded to the Baltimore Orioles along with Adam Jones and minor league pitchers Kam Mickolio, Chris Tillman, and Tony Butler, for Orioles left-hander Érik Bédard. On March 18, 2008, Sherrill was named the closer for Baltimore Orioles.
In 2004 Sherrill began his year as a player for his team, the Tacoma Rainiers of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League (PCL) which made an All-Star squad for Triple-A. He did not participate during the All-Star game as the team was promoted into the Mariners. Sherrill was able to make the MLB debut on the 16th of July in 2004, when he faced Cleveland Indians. Cleveland Indians, taking the loss after putting in only one inning in relief, giving up two runs. Sherrill split his 2005 with Tacoma as well as Seattle and then joined in the Mariners full-time in the year 2006.

Sherrill was a student at Evangelical Christian School in Memphis, Tennessee, graduating in 1995. He was enrolled at Jackson State Community College, playing on the basketball team between 1996 and 1997. After his sophomore year He transferred into Austin Peay State University. As a member of the Austin Peay Governors baseball team, Sherrill served as closing pitcher in 1998 and as a pitcher who started in 1999.
In July 2003 the Seattle Mariners purchased Sherrill’s rights from Winnipeg for $3,000 and signed Sherrill to an minor league contract, which included an initial sign-on bonus worth $2,500. The Mariners assigned Sherrill with the San Antonio Missions of the Class AA Texas League, and was chosen as the Seattle agent for The Arizona Fall League.
During the 2008 season, some of Sherrill’s Baltimore teammates would flip up the brims of their hats every time he successfully closed out a game. Orioles fans nicknamed this move the Flat Breezy, and the Orioles television announcers would sometimes announce an Orioles win after a Sherrill save as “flat breezy time.” In a MASN post-game interview, Sherrill credited former Orioles first baseman Kevin Millar, a noted prankster, as the originator of this gesture. Sherrill also acquired the nickname of the “Brim Reaper” from Millar which Sherrill carried over to the L.A. Dodgers and eventually trademarked in 2009 (although it was abandoned as of February 2010).
