Byrd and Daniel L. Martin with 96.59 percent of the vote. The 4th of November, 2008 being an incumbent candidate, Cushingberry won the election and continued to serve District 8. Cushingberry beat Thomas W. Jones with 96.90 percent of the votes.
Cushingberry received a bachelors and an advanced master’s in political Science and Urban Politics and Policy and administration at Wayne State University. In 1991, he was awarded the Juris Doctor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.

George Cushingberry Jr. (born on the 6th of January 1953) is a famous American politician born in Michigan. Cushingberry was an elected participant on the Detroit City Council and a member of the Michigan House of Representatives.
In 1975 Cushingberry was the youngest member to hold the Michigan State House, where was in office until 1982. After his departure from the House Cushingberry became an official on the Wayne County Board of Commissioners which he was a member for 16 years.
After being elected Cushingberry was appointed the Chairman of the Appropriations Committee until 2010. After an unsuccessful run for State Senator, Cushingberry ran for City Council representing District 2 in Northwest Detroit winning by over 50% of the districts voters. Cushingberry was elected President Pro-Tempore of the City Council in 2014 and appointed Chairman of the Budget, Finance and, Audit Committee.
