Genet Getaneh Wendimagegnehu (born 6 January, 1986) is an Ethiopian long- distance runner who participates in marathon and half-marathon races. She competed for Ethiopia during the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in 2007 and 2008, placing fourth in the latter event. She has twice been a participant in the Great Ethiopian Run and won the Zevenheuvelenloop in 2010. She is a personal record holder of 2:25:38 for the marathon, and 1:08:18 hour for the half-marathon.
Genet began competing at the race in 2009. She did very well in her first race finishing fifth in both Berlin Marathon and the Dubai Marathon with the personal best of 2:26.37 hours for the second race. In the following year, she ran in both marathons, and finished 8th in Dubai but did not get to the finish line in Berlin. She ran her best national performance over 10,000m during the Ethiopian Championships, coming a close second to Amane Gobena. She also she ran a best 15 km time of 47.54 minutes to beat Florence Kiplagat to the title at the Zevenheuvelenloop. The 2011 season featured three marathons. In the first race, she finished seventh in Dubai Then she came in fourth in the Vienna City Marathon. A new personal record of 2:25:57 minutes was set in the Amsterdam Marathon, although this was just enough for fourth because the race winning Tiki Gelana managed to break the record of the race. The American made an American debut in the 2012 Boston Marathon despite being among the first runners to finish in 11th place. She made it to the podium in the 2012 Amsterdam Marathon, taking third spot with the personal best of 2:25:38 minutes.
Genet was living in the Netherlands in the beginning of 2007 when she finished 3rd in the Parelloop in April, and achieved a best 10,000m time of 32:09:50 mins in Valkenswaard. She stepped up to longer distances, and a third place in the Ethiopian 20 km Championship brought her selection for the 2007 IAAF World Road Running Championships. In her first half-marathon, she finished 19th overall in the race, with a 1:0:30 hour of running. She took part in the Ethiopian Run for the fifth time in the past five years and finished fourth. She finished 5th at the 2008 Ethiopian cross-country championships but was not able to qualify to compete in the World Championships. But she did make her debut in the half-marathon that year. She placed third at the Paris Half Marathon and her fourth place at the 2008 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships was instrumental in helping Ethiopia to win the team title. She set a personal record time of 1:08:18 to finish second place behind Aselefech Mergia during the New Delhi Half Marathon and it was ranked as fourth in the world that year.

Genet Getaneh was raised in the The Oromia Region’s Arsi Zone of Ethiopia and began to participate in national-level races as an teen. She was chosen as a representative of Ethiopia in the 2004 Yokohama Women’s Ekiden and, beginning the race on the initial 5 km section she was able to help Ethiopia take the victory.
