She began playing guitar at age four and played Old-time, Bluegrass music and Celtic music throughout her childhood and then recorded her first album of original music in 1994. The artist has made 14 more recordings since 1994 as well as music for television broadcasts and independent films. She was the interim managing editor for Premier Guitar Magazine for several months in the year 2009.
The year ended at the end of 2017, Gayla is enrolled in the program for diplomas of the Sound Healing Academy in Cornwall and will be awarded her certificate in the month of May of 2019. She is an Reiki Master/Teacher, and holds several advanced certificates for Light Language. She teaches violin, guitar and songwriting. She is currently developing music for an upcoming collection of Healing Sound House Concerts featuring Iowa violinist and the Sound Healing Practitioner, Natalie Brown. The project is also in the process of developing an online course known as Songwriting Mastery, set to start in the year 2018.
In 2014, she released a joint vinyl album with the band from Iowa, Kodiak Flats, called Aunt G & the Stone City Nephews which features John Waite on lead guitar and backing vocals. Jake Niederhauser on rhythm guitar; Jim “Slim” Leland on bass; Dustin D. Busch playing the mandolin, and slide guitar as well as Pete Becker on nearly everything other things. Gayla created all songs, sang lead vocals she played her fiddle a majority of the songs. She also played guitar on three tracks.
