Gary Steele is one of the most popular and richest Amateur Wrestler who was born on May 1, 1973 in Gravesend, England, United Kingdom. The Mid-Atlantic event he was wrestling in when he took home that championship is operating since the end of the 1990s. Although it’s based out of the same region, and has also revised certain local Mid-Atlantic championships, it’s not the same company that was once operated by Jim Crockett, Jr. and was sold by him to Ted Turner in November 1988. This promotion would later be changed to World Championship Wrestling.
After returning in Great Britain, he became the first NWA United Kingdom Heavyweight Champion after beating Johnny Moss in a tournament final in Telford Shropshire, England on 2 November 2001.
Nearly two years after Ogawa was able to retire from his title Steele was defeated by then NWA World Champion Shinya Hashimoto in a round robin triangular match against Steve Corino at McKeesport, Pennsylvania on December 15, 2001.

Gary Harvey is a British professional wrestler who retired and is better called Gary Steele, who has participated on European, North American and Japanese promotions. He has also been a fixture of NWA UK Hammerlock since the mid-1990s. An ex- Southern UK Champion, Steele participated in a variety of strap matches against the rival Guy Thunder during the late 1990s, and has also teamed up alongside Jake “the Snake” Roberts. A skilled martial artist and submission wrestler, Steele also appeared at the Pro Wrestling Zero-One PPV Supercards “Fighting Athlete” in March 2001, and True Century Creation II in March 2002.
While in the United States with the National Wrestling Alliance, Steele defeated Naoya Ogawa in an all-three-way match against Brian Anthony in Charlotte, North Carolina on 25 September 1999. He became the first English World Heavyweight Champion in professional wrestling history. He was also being one of the first wrestlers ever to be crowned the NWA World Heavyweight Championship although his title was lost to Ogawa just a week later at Thomaston, Connecticut on 2 October.
He appeared as a contestant on the UK version of Deal Or No Deal on 28 June 2011.
