Gary Day is one of the most popular and richest Musician who was born on June 27, 1965 in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. Day began learning the double bass during his late teens. He was influenced by the Rockabilly style of playing slaps after having been influenced by UK Rock and Roll as well as Psychobilly scenes, particularly The Meteors and their bass player Nigel Lewis. Day also returned to the classic 1950s rock and roll and, as time went by, he started to become interested in different kinds of music, as an inevitable progression, thereby discovering new influences that would help to develop his unique style, e.g. blues and jazz musicians like Carol Kaye, Willie Dixon, Red Callender and Charlie Mingus. Day began playing the electric bass prior to joining the Morrissey group.

In the latter part of 2012 Day began to join the band known as”the Ely Plains. But, he quit the group in October of the following year.

In early 2015, Day, after contacting Clive Franklin, vocalist and lyricist from London-based band The Poncés, he became involved with their first album, playing double and electric bass on the album Songs For Hope About Despair, The Poncés first album release on Sub-Ver-Siv records thinking Day would be the ideal bassist for his songs, he was right! Day also lent his studio experience skills and assisted in the mixing and mastering of the album, and was released February 2016. Day joined the band as a full-time member, and proceeded to record double bass on Franklin’s Latin and Jazz projects. A new Poncés album is due for release in 2021 and was part recorded and produced at Day’s Rhythm Chief Studios, alongside released singles listed below and other songs in various stages of production!

Day’s own band, The Gazmen (which featured the fellow Morrissey guitar player Alain Whyte along with two members of The Sharks, Alan Wilson and Paul Hodges) released a four-track EP called Rigormortis Rock on September 20, 2000. The release was a re-release from The group’s 1995 12 inch vinyl album (on label Vinyl Japan label) also known as Rigamortis Rock, and re-released in 2020.

Gary Edward William Day (born 27 June 1965) is a British musician best known for his the bass in Morrissey, The Gazmen, The Nitros, Carlos and the Bandidos and The Ponces.

Day initially played with Morrissey beginning in 1990. after rehearsals, he played until 1991 during The Kill Uncle tour, recording sessions were recorded for singles, the album Your Arsenal, and the tour’s promotion until 1992. However, he was dismissed in 1994. The band was rehired in 1999 to play on Morrissey’s Oye Esteban tour, the “You Are Quarry” album singles as well as the tour. He continued to be the band’s bassist until the conclusion of “Ringleader Of The Tormentors” album and tour in 2006 for time to be with family members and create his own material. Day was not a part of any of the Morrissey recordings in 2007. He also composed music to Morrissey including early session songs like “Pashernate Love”, “Let The Right One Slip In” and “Mexico”.

Day continues to play bass in many genres of music and has recently played on The Sons’ The Tension Of Dream Clouds, which was released in May 2015. He also plays double bass alongside drummer Spike T Smith, also an ex-Morrissey band member in Reza Uhdin’s band Black Volition on occasions.
