It was the candidate for president of his party during the Mexican general elections in 2012.
Quadri de la Torre has said that he is the people of us who feel “unsatisfied” with Mexican politics and political partisanship. La Jornada mentioned that Quadri believes that mediocrity is the result of Mexico’s partisanship and asked the citizens of Mexico to keep in mind the fact that it is not the case that they “are not condemned to vote for the same politicians and political parties,” and that “alternatives exist.” Quadri stated at the time of his March speech that he’s one of the “only candidate of the citizens” since he claims to not be given any instructions or orders from any political party or Elba Esther Gordillo.
Quadri was one of two New Alliance representatives elected by the voters of Mexico City to sit on the Constituent Assembly of Mexico City, which will convene on September 15, 2016.
On April 20, 2012 Quadri stated that he is not in support of abortion, but is in favor of putting women in jail for making choices about their bodies. However, Quadri proposes prevention measures including contraception, sexual education and strategies for family planning. Additionally, he is in favor of the idea of keeping Mexico as a secular nation.

Quadri completed his studies at the Ibero-American University with a major in Civil Engineering. He completed postgraduate studies at the University of Texas and was awarded a Master of Arts diploma from the Department of Economics from 1981. In 2010, he was awarded the Walter Reuter Prize in 2010 for his numerous articles about climate change as well as the environmental. Additionally, Quadri has written several books about the conservation of the natural environment. He has also worked with the media.
He started as an advisor to the National Institute of Ecology during the administration of Ernesto Zedillo (1994-2000), working under Julia Carabias, who was the head of the Secretariat of the Environment and Natural Resources. He was later appointed director general of the Centro de Estudios Economicos; Quadri was also the head director of the External Financing sector in the Bank of Mexico. Quadri was the initiator of SIGEA which is an organization that is committed to environmental protection.
On 16 February 2012, the New Alliance Party (PANAL) registered Gabriel Quadri as the presidential candidate for the Mexican general elections of 2012. He was the first candidate of all presidential candidates to register for the elections at the Federal Electoral Institute. The New Alliance Party broke the coalition it had with the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM), and Quadri accepted to become candidate for the presidency. Ernesto J. Cordero, one of the three final candidates for the National Action Party (PAN), said in January 2012 that a coalition with the New Alliance could serve beneficial, and that “in politics, one has to be open to every possibility.” Josefina Vázquez Mota, the presidential candidate of the National Action Party for the 2012 elections, said that her party would not form a coalition with the New Alliance Party.
