Frederick MacAulay (born 29 December 1956) is a Scottish comedian from Scotland. For 18 years, up to march 2015, he was the host of an on-going BBC Scotland radio programme MacAulay and Co. He was a guest on a variety of television programs.
In 2001, he was appointed to the post of Rector for Dundee University. University of Dundee and was officially installed on May 3rd, 2001. 2007 was the year he participated in the Comic Relief Does Fame Academy and was the seventh participant to be eliminated.
MacAulay is now known to become a regular performer in the Edinburgh Fringe and at comedy festivals across the world. MacAulay hosted the morning show on BBC Radio Scotland between 1997 and 2015, and for BBC TV he hosted one season on the show McCoist and MacAulay. McCoist as well as MacAulay (with the former player Ally McCoist), two seasons of Life According to Fred and BBC Scotland’s coverage of Children in Need initially with Hazel Irvine in 1998 and 1999 and then Jackie Bird from 2000 – 2002. He was an actor on the comedy quiz shows such as They Think It’s All Over, I’m Sorry I’m Not been a Clue, The Unbelievable Truth, Just A Minute, QI, The News Quiz and Mock the Week, and returned to The News with I Got News For You as a live guest. In 2009 the show hosted him on an interactive show that aired on BBC Radio 4 entitled I Think That’s the Reason The News is The News. In October of 2018 MacAulay was featured on his role in the Scottish episode of the HISTORY TV program Al Murray: Why Does Everyone Hate the English along with presenter Al Murray.

Born in Perth MacAulay grew up in Perth. He studied at Killin Elementary School. He also studied Rattray Primary School, and Blairgowrie High School Both located in Blairgowrie and also the Perth Academy. In 1978, he graduated from Blairgowrie’s University of Dundee with an MA in accounting and the law of jurisprudence. He worked as an accountant at various firms such as that of the Cairngorm Chairlift Company in Aviemore. In 1984, he got married to Aileen and they have three children.
MacAulay’s first encounter with stand-up comedy took place in Bar Point in the “West End” of Paisley. His first TV appearance was on the stand-up show of STV, The Funny Farm. MacAulay was a full-time professionally-trained comedian by 1993. He also hosted two seasons that aired the version for children Now You See It in 1994 and 1995 on Scottish Television.
