Brooks was a part of the 2005 season playing for the Braves Triple-A affiliate known as the Richmond Braves. He was able to earn a brief invitation to Atlanta and pitched for two batters during an exhibition game with Atlanta’s San Diego Padres on May 16. Then, at the end of the year Brooks was signed by the New York Yankees as a minor free agent in the league. In April of 2006, Brooks signed a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals. Brooks was let go on June 12,, and the next day, he signed as a player for the Boston Red Sox. Brooks continued to pitch for Boston throughout 2006 playing with his Red Sox Double-A affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs. On the 8th of November the 8th of November, 2006 Brooks signed an agreement with minor leagues for the San Diego Padres and became free agents following the season.

After spending most of the year in Triple-A, Brooks made his major league debut on the 27, 2004 and then appeared in 11 games for the Pirates. Brooks pitched very well in relief by striking out 17 batters over 16/3 innings, and allowing the .175 batter’s batting average to opposition batters. However, his final season numbers were skewed by a subpar performance in an emergency game. The Pirates put the player on waivers in order to free up available roster space at the close of the season. Then, they claimed him from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Brooks participated in Spring Training with the Dodgers however, he was put in waivers once more on April 13th, 2005 and was then claimed by the Atlanta Braves.

Brooks played baseball in high school during his time at Sheepshead Bay High School in Brooklyn. In a game played in 1996 the pitcher threw a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts, and hit a homerun. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Saint Peter’s College, New Jersey for three years. After the conclusion of his junior year, it was announced that the Philadelphia Phillies selected him with the 396th overall selection of the 1999 draft as part of the draft’s thirteenth selection. He was signed by Phillies. Pittsburgh Pirates, who acquired him as part of a deadline trade to acquire the closer Mike Williams. Following trading, Brooks played with the two Pirates affiliates which included The Altoona Curve and the Nashville Sounds.

On April 14, 2008, Brooks signed with the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League.
