Francesco Rutelli is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on June 14, 1954 in Rome, Lazio, Italy. Mario Rutelli (his great-grandfather) was the designer of Najadi Fountain situated in Rome (1901) as well as the Anita Garibaldi’s Memorial and numerous sculptures for private and public use including some of the most significant sculptures found in Palermo (Sicily). The other great-grandfather of his, Felice Martini of Parma was the architect for the most recent renovation (1873) in the historical Arsenale located in Venice. The grandfather Ottavio Marini worked as Director for Antiquities and Belle Arti of the Italian Government (1910-20’s). It is believed that the Rutelli family, located in Palermo is connected to a number of significant developments: the building of Teatro Massimo, the buildings in Via Roma and along the seafront Mondello’s liberty building.
He was first elected the deputy president in 1983 and then confirming his position in 1987 and in 1992. He then became a member of the Federation of the Greens in the late 1980sand was one of the most prominent party leaders, while also launching new environmental campaigns.
He has been elected to the European Parliament (1999-2004), sitting in the ALDE Group, introducing Reports and many Parliamentary initiatives. He has been one of the main promoter of the Referendum for a stronger integration between Italy and the EU (held in 1989, with an overwhelming YES vote – 88%); he has been awarded the Crocodile-Altiero Spinelli Prize, as a proEuropean personality.
He also served as a Member of European Parliament from 1999 to 2004. There he’s been committed to promote initiatives for the abolition of death penalty, freedom of information improvement and against corruption. From the mid-1990s onwards his views appeared increasingly moderate.

In his fellow Radicals, Rutelli championed humanitarian and libertarian principles, including unilateral disarmament, the elimination of nuclear power plants opposition to conscientious objection to mandatory National Service, eradication of hunger around the world, and legalisation of cannabis use. The political policy that was the responsibility of these Italian Radicals was self-described by their resemblance to the Gandhian non- violent movement.

Francesco Rutelli (born 14 June 1954) is the President of Anica, National Association of Film and Audiovisual Industry, since October of 2016. He also serves as the chairman of the “Centro per un Futuro Sostenibile” (Centre for Sustainable Future, the bipartisan think tank that focuses on environmental and climate change issues). He was for 15 years the co-president for the European Democratic Party, a centrist European political party. He is currently President of the Institute of European Democrats, EDP political foundation. He was mayor of Rome 1994-2001and President of the party of centrists Democracy is Freedom – The Daisy 2002-2007. He was the deputy Prime Minister as well as Minister for Culture and Tourism in the second cabinet of the Prime Secretary Romano Prodi 2006-2008.. In the present, he is also chair of Priorita Cultura (Culture First); Incontro di Civilta (Civilizations Meeting); Videocitta, Moving Images Festival (Rome between 2018 and 2019).

He was then chosen as Ministry of Environment and Urban Areas in 1993, although he resigned after one day in the post. Being reelected in 1997, with 985.000 popular votes, the highest in the history of the City, Rutelli held the position until 2001.
