An ex-member of the Socialist Party, she previously was the State Secretary for the Budget from 2000 until the year 2002, under president Jacques Chirac.
In relation to regarding the Iran Nuclear Deal, Parly spoke to BFM TV in 2019 that “nothing would be worse than Iran leaving this deal. We absolutely want to keep this agreement alive”. In the wake of the American-led Baghdad airstrike in the month of January in 2020 which ended the life of Iranian Quds head Qasem Soleimani Parly did not agree to the demand to remove French soldiers from Iraq and even stated via her account on Twitter that France has already strengthened the security of its 160 soldiers in Iraq. Parly further stated she believed that it is the French government’s top priority to combat ISIS militants who were returning to the region. Parly was also adamant about Iran not to increase tensions.
Parly was appointed Minister for the Armies on the 21st of June, 2017 following Sylvie Goulard was compelled to quit because of an ongoing investigation into her party. After her nomination Parly removed herself from all of her boards; and Her spouse Martin Vial withdrew from his role as a director of Thales Group.

A graduate of the École Nationale d’administration, Florence Parly was appointed Secretary of State for the Budget 3 January 2000 during the administration of the Prime Secretary Lionel Jospin. From her time in office until the 6th of May 2002, she served as a second Christian Sautter, then Laurent Fabius in the Ministry of Finance.
