Florence Jaugey was born in Nice, France in 1959 and went on to study drama during her time in Paris at ENSATT (Ecole Nationale Superieure der Arts and Techniques du Theater). She was an actor in the 1980s. In 1984, she travelled to Nicaragua to play the principal actress in the film El Senor Presidente directed by the Cuban director Manuel Octavio Gomez.

In 2009, Jaugey directed her first drama feature film, which was titled La Yuma. The film was chosen for consideration as the Nicaraguan entry in The Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards but the film did not make the list of nominees. It was the first feature-length film to be made in 20 years by Nicaragua according to the World Bank in a paper entitled The Projection of Development by Lewis, Rodgers, and Woolcock. Her next full- length film La Pantalla Desnuda (The Naked Screen) is scheduled to be released in 2014.

One of her last works, a documentary titled Deceit (2012), original title in Spanish El engaño, portrays the lives of seven women who survived human trafficking and how they struggle to cope with their experiences leading some of them to work for at-risk centers for girls. In the documentary Jaugey travels through Central America exposing the conditions of violence against women.

Jaugey’s work in film has been concentrated on the poor people of Nicaragua including the short documentary Cinema Alcazar which was awarded the Silver Bear at Berlinale (1998) the first award for Nicaragua. The documentary is about people who live in the wreckage of an destroyed by the earthquake a film house that was built in the 1950s in the middle of Managua. It is a film The Island of the Lost Children (2001) was the original subtitle was in Spanish La Isla de los Ninos Perdidos filming in a jail cell and was awarded the Society of Authors Award at the International Documentary Festival Cinema du Reel in Paris in 2002.
