Hardy. Bamji was intrigued by the story for a couple of years and was writing an original script for film at the time he received an invitation from McBurney. It was the result that became A Disappearing Number which was awarded it the Laurence Olivier Award and the Critics Circle Theatre Award for the Best New Play and the Evening Standard Award for the Best Performance. In the following four years the play A Disappearing Number performed in Europe, Australia, India and the United States and finished its highly acclaimed run at Novello Theatre in London’s West End.
