He was born in Adelaide, South Australia. His family relocated in 1965 into Balwyn North, Victoria. He began drawing from a young age and self-published one of his very first comics, Fudsey, at age of 10. The next year , his own comic Zeroy serialized over a period of four weeks in a newspaper on Sundays known as The Observer. Barlow began his career as a professional cartoonist by working for Australian Scout Magazine at the age of 16 and two years later he was an ongoing contributor to Melbourne located Inkspots Magazine. Minotaur Books proprietor, Colin Paraskevas was the publisher of Barlow’s Zooniverse comic worldwide in an agreement along with Eclipse Comics between 1986 and 1987.
In 2010, Barlow was back in Melbourne Australia to focus solely on Zooniverse. Barlow began sending Zoon related animations every month to the website Loop De Loop, and formed a new business Zoonitoons along with Maier as well. In 2012,. they began revising Barlow’s Zooniverse along with Rex Vectar comics. In 2014, the duo started working together in the production of 8House: Yorris for Image Comics.
Since 2001, Barlow has been working on her own as a the character designer and producer for Tutenstein, Igor and the co-creation Helen Maier of the game Spectrobes for Disney.

Fil Barlow (born 1963) is an Australian cartoonist, artist producer, writer and author currently living at Los Angeles. Barlow created the Zooniverse comic book that was published between 1986 and 1987.
Richard Raynis, then producer at DIC Richard Raynis, the producer of DIC at the time, offered Barlow an ALF character designer supervisor job at ALF that he worked on from 1987 until 1989. Barlow came back to Australia and relocated into Queensland’s Gold Coast, Queensland in 1992 to create Rex Vectar, a graphic novel Rex Vectar, which was serialized in Megazone Magazine in 1992 and was published until 1994. Barlow also launched his own animation and publishing company, Zoonimedia. In the middle of 1994, he relocated to Brisbane together with Helen Maier who was one of the artists that was associated with Kinetic Comics. In 1996, Barlow came back to Los Angeles with Maier, creating an animation production company, Artopia. Through Artopia, his company Barlow was the character design supervisor and principal character designer with Columbia Tristar, working on Extreme Ghostbusters, Godzilla: The Series and Godzilla: The Series, the 3D Series Starship Troopers: Roughneck Chronicles, Max Steel, Heavy Gear and Adam Sandler’s film Eight Crazy Nights.
