Fikile April Mbalula (born on April 8, 1971, from the Free State) is a South African politician who is currently Minister for Transport. He has previously served as Minister and the Deputy Minister of Police as well as the Minister for Sports and Recreation. Mbalula is a member of National Executive Committee of the African National Congress and former director for the African National Congress Youth League.

Mbalula has been elected as a member of his position on the ANC NEC at the party’s Polokwane conference in December 2007 and was voted 15th place, as measured by how many votes. Mbalula later resigned as the President of the ANC Youth League of which at the age of 36 Mbalula was no longer eligible to join the ANC.

In the 2009 general elections he was the manager of the ANC election campaign, which was considered highly successful.

In January 2014, after Bafana Bafana were eliminated in the first round from the CHAN competition, Mbalula said that the national team were “a bunch of losers”.

A notorious disdain for the rules of speech, Mbalula has several times been in the news for controversial remarks. On June 7, 2007, Mbalula compared KwaZulu- Natal’s University to Bombay and claimed that black students were pushed to the fringes while students of Indian descendance grew in the numbers.
