Fidel Nadal (Spanish pronunciation: [fi’del Na’dal was born Fidel Ernesto Nadal, the 4th of October 1965) is an Afro-Argentinian Reggae musician, songwriter and the pioneer in the field of Latin American Reggae and the underground punk/hardcore movement from Argentina.

The year 2009 was the time his smash track International Love was included on the “FIFA Trax” on the most recent version of EA Sports football games, FIFA 10.

In 2011 he made three remix with reggaeton artist from Puerto Rico and Mexico, two with De La Ghetto in the song “Te Robaste Mi Corazón” Remix and “Te Robaste Mi Corazón Cumbia” Mix, with Julio Voltio in “International Love 2011” Remix, and with Adrian Banton “Dejenme Fumar” Remix.

Nadal was born into an academic family in Buenos Aires, his mother was an anthropologist and visual artist and his father, Enrique Nadal, a film director and a leading fighter for the recognition of the rights of black Argentines. According to his own recollection, he was heavily influenced by the music listened to by his parents, mainly blues and jazz. His ideology involves deep Rastafarian culture from countries like Jamaica and Haiti; one of his inspirations, as with many reggae groups, is Bob Marley. His main influences are related to reggae rhythms and Afro-Argentine culture. Nadal is descendant of Angolan slaves brought to Buenos Aires in the 17th century. He is fluent in Spanish, English and Jamaican Patois.

Nadal was included twice as the face of Rolling Stone (Argentina) (Argentina) in October 2009, for an issue that was dedicated to reggae “El Rasta Que Revoluciono el Rock Latino” (The Rasta that revolutionized Latin Rock) and January 2012 with an issue that was dedicated specifically to Argentine reggae.

In 1984, he sang in his very first performance in an ensemble. The following year, he formed the group Todos Tus Muertos. The group combined reggae and hip hop and punk influences. The result was that the group became extremely successful and released their debut album in 1988, which was followed by a contract to Universal Music. Inspired by reggae beats along with the sound that is part of The Afro Argentine community, Nadal is well-known for his collaboration in the band Todos Tus Muertos. The band was formed in the 1980s, and split around 2000. The group released six albums prior to its dissolution. In the 1990s, Nadal formed Lumumba, reggae-oriented group, with his buddy, Pablo Molina (also from Todos Tus Muertos) as well as Nadal’s brother Amilcar Nadal. In its brief but successful time, the group released four albums that were received with acclaim by the reggae community, however, it disbanded after a while. The last two albums, Todos and Tus Muertos along with Lumumba, Fidel felt the need to continue playing reggae, and leave the harder music behind. However, after the two projects vanished the singer decided to carry alone.

In 2001, this brand new project was created, featuring an image that was completely rastafarian and style. In the same year, he debuted three albums, including Selassie I Dios Todopoderoso featuring a lot of reggae and songs with pure rasta vibes, such as an original version of Mexican band Los Tigres del Norte, Cuando Gime La Raza as well as Cabeza negra, with numerous guest artists (which added an additional diversity to the album and gave it a distinct sound from the previous one). In the end, Repatriacion appeared, with many collaborators and also with a version of an Tigres del Norte tune, La Puerta Negra. In 2008, he released the smash single International Love, off the album with the same name and whose electronic/dreamy sound has been a huge popular tune on a variety of Latino radio stations, and has attracted new non- reggae fans.

In 2011, Fidel received two Latin Grammy nominations for Best Alternative Album Forever Together and Best Alternative Song “Te Robaste Mi Corazón.”
