Fernando Alexis Nieve [knee-EH-veh] (born July 15th 1982) is a Venezuelan professional baseball player who was a right-handed pitcher. He was a player in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Houston Astros and New York Mets as well as in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) for the Doosan Bears. He is currently Minor League Pitching Coach at Pittsburgh Pirates

He signed an minor league contract for the Los Angeles Dodgers in December 2011. The team he was with is the AAA Albuquerque Isotopes. He played 25 games with the Isotopes and was 7-9 , with an 5.96 ERA.

On March 24, 2011, Nieve signed a minor league contract with the Houston Astros. He was released a month later.

Nieve was traded to the Oakland Athletics for cash considerations on August 3,

2013. He was assigned to the AAA Sacramento River Cats. He became a free agent on October 1. He re-signed on November 18, 2013.

Nieve had been signed by Houston Astros as an amateur free agent in the year 1999. After two seasons with the Venezuelan Summer League he came to the U.S. to play for the rookie league Martinsville Astros. He was an Texas League all- star in 2005 with the Corpus Christi Hooks, when the team was 4-2 and had an 2.65 ERA in 14 starts. He made his debut in the major leagues as a member of the Houston Astros on April 4 of 2006 in a game against Florida Marlins. The Astros made their first start in April 16, against Arizona Diamondbacks and picked up his first victory on May 2 in a game in a game against Milwaukee Brewers.
