Eyerusalem Kuma (born 7 September 1981 in Addis Ababa) is an Ethiopian long- distance runner who runs marathons. She holds a personal record of 2:24:55 for the distance. She was also the winner of 2009’s Amsterdam Marathon.
Eyerusalam returned to competitive racing in 2009, making her first appearance at the marathon distance in 2009 in the Dubai Marathon and her time of 2:26:51 was good enough for sixth place. After her second run at this distance she took home in 2009 the Amsterdam Marathon. She set a half-marathon personal record of 1:10.42 hours as a result of finishing runner-up at the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow. She was ranked eighth in the Prague Marathon in 2010, but upon her return to Amsterdam she finished second with a time of 227:04 hours. She raced in the 2010 Paris Marathon and came fourth. In her third participation in the Amsterdam Marathon she ran a personal best of 2:24:55 minutes and was once again the runner-up, finishing in second place behind the other Ethiopian Tiki Gelana.
In 2013 Kuma failed doping test that was taken at Amsterdam Marathon. She was suspended for 2 years.
Early in her career she won team medals with Kenya at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships – her best individual finishes were fifth in 2002 and fourth in 2003. Her first personal international medals came at the African Championships in Athletics, where she was the 10,000 metres bronze medallist in 2002 and the African champion in 2004. She was also fourth in that event at the 2003 All-Africa Games.
She took home a gold award at 2004’s IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. Following a break in her career, she became an expert in marathons in 2009. She finished in the top ten for the Amsterdam Marathon in 2010 and in 2011.

At the start in her professional career, she was a specialist in track running and cross-country running. Her first international appearance came in 2000 when she placed eighth in the Junior race of the 2000 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and also achieved the same winning over 5000 meters during the 2000 World Junior Championships in Athletics. Kuma made her senior debut next year, during the 2001 IAAF World Cross Country Championships where she placed 22nd in the race, and aiding Ethiopia to win the gold medal for the team. Kuma had her first big impact following the year, when her 5th place finish in the marathon race of the 2002 IAAF World Cross Country Championships led her country to the title of team captain and she was awarded the bronze medal for 10,000 meters in the 2002 African Championships in Athletics (behind Kenyan duo Susan Chepkemei and Leah Malot).
In 2003, at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships she was the highest placed athlete in fourth place and took the team title along with the medallists Werknesh Kidane, and Merima Denboba. She also finished an Ethiopian 2nd in the 10,000 m during the 2003 Afro-Asian Games, where she was second in the race with Ejegayehu Dibaba. Despite a disappointing performance in the 2004 World Cross Country, she took home her first major trophy during the 2004 African Championships in Athletics, taking out all the competitors to claim the gold medal for the 10,000 meters. Kuma ran her 10,000-meter personal best at Utrecht, Netherlands, running at 31:25.46 minutes. It also led to success on the roads. She was sixth in the 2004, IAAF World Half Marathon Championships and coached a team comprising Bezunesh Bekele along with Teyba Erkesso to a gold medal. In 2005, she ran sparingly and took a break from her career in running until 2009.
Eyerusalem didn’t make the podium in any of her outings in 2012: she came seventh at the Tokyo Marathon and fifth at both the Toronto Waterfront Marathon and Hannover Marathon. Her first races of 2013 saw her take third at the Xiamen International Marathon and the Vienna City Marathon.
