Evans Rutto is one of the most popular and richest Marathon Runner who was born on April 8, 1978 in Marakwet District, Kenya. Evans Rutto (born 8 April 1978 in Marakwet District) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specializes in road-running races. He ran the fastest marathon of his debut when he won the 2003 Chicago Marathon in a time of 2:05:50. He was the winner of both the London Marathon and a second place in Chicago the following year.

After 2004, Rutto’s fitness dropped significantly, and in 2006, he was forced to withdraw from marathons due to injuries. Rutto hasn’t yet been back to competitive but his personal best is still keeping Rutto among the top 20 most efficient runners of all time.

His 2005 performances were considerably less successful as he only managed tenth place at the London Marathon, losing his unbeaten record of three straight victories. His fastest time of the year, 2:07:28, was only enough to bring him fourth at the Chicago Marathon. At the 2006 London Marathon he was in tenth place again and appeared in agony at the end of the race.

Rutto took time out from competitive running after a disappointing 2006, due to injury and personal problems.

He began his 2004 campaign with a victory at the London Marathon, beating Sammy Korir by a half-minute. Rutto was back on his home on the Chicago race in the month of October, and held on to his title with a time of 2:06:16. That’s more than an hour and a half ahead of the runner-up Daniel Njenga. Both times put Rutto in the top two places on the fastest marathons of the season listing for the year 2004.

His first major event was in 1999 at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships where he came in fiveth position in the marathon. He contributed to an outstanding Kenyan place in the team race. Rutto was a top runner over the 10k-to half marathon distances. He took home the race in 2001, Beach to Beacon race and was the best Kenyan finisher in the race in 2001. IAAF World Half Marathon Championships with a time of 1:00:43 to finish sixth.

He made the leap to marathon in 2003 , and won his first race in the Chicago Marathon with a record debut time of 2:05:50 which made him the fourth fastest marathoner of all date (after Paul Tergat, Sammy Korir, and Khalid Khannouchi). This was the fastest ever time for a marathon’s debut and remains the same – and is his personal best time.

He trains with Kimbia Athletics and is coached by Dieter Hogen. Rutto is married with three children, Winnie, Dennis, and Dieter (after Coach Dieter Hogen) (as of 2005). His father Kilimo Yano was also a runner, whose personal best at 10,000 metres was 29 minutes. He won the 2014 Mumbai Marathon losing out on the course record by one second and a US$15,000 bonus for it.
