Evans Kiprop Cheruiyot (born on May 10 1982, in Kapkoi village in Keiyo District) is a Kenyan long-distance athlete who competes at the race of a lifetime. He began as a half-marathon runner, and won races at Rotterdam and Nairobi and then winning his first marathon in Milan in 2007. He was the winner of his first Chicago Marathon in 2008, with a personal best of 2:06:25.

In the 2007 IAAF World Road Running Championships He finished third in the race and also was part in the Kenyan team who took home the race as a team. He took home his first race in 2007, the Rotterdam Half Marathon and made his debut in the full marathon later in the year, winning victory in the Milan Marathon in December. He previously beat top athletes and teams like Robert Kipkoech, his namesake Cheruiyot. In his second attempt in the full distance he took his race in the Chicago Marathon held on October 12th, 2008, with a time of 2:06,25.

Cheruiyot is also a representative of Kenya internationally, and won bronze in 2007’s IAAF World Road Running Championships.

A mechanic by trade Cheruiyot is the seventh child in a nine-member family. After having graduated from Kapkoi Primary School, located in Rift Valley Province’s Keiyo District, he took the mechanical engineering and driving program when he joined the National Youth Service (NYS). As a member of the NYS it was his first time running. He began his career in competitive sports in the month of October 2004, with a third place finish in a 10,000-meter race after having completed his training at the NYS. The following week after his first race, he took home his first victory in the half marathon in the Standard Chartered Nairobi race, with the time of 1:04:24. After competing in a variety of cross-country events in France He won his second half-marathon race which was the Humarathon in April of 2005. He participated in several other races in 2005 , until the time he was stranded in France together with 14 fellow runners without food, money, or shelter in December. Thankfully, the Kenyan Embassy came to their aid.

The year 2006 was the time he completed under one hour for the half-marathon and finished second in the Berlin Half Marathon, and the race was nationally ranked in the race in the eyes of Running Times. The time he ran in the 2006 half marathon was ranked among the top ten runners of all time.

His 2009 season was less successful – he was eighth at the Boston Marathon and then fifth at the Fukuoka Marathon in Japan. A serious injury ruled him out of competitive running for the latter half of 2009 and all of 2010. He made his comeback at the 2011 Dubai Marathon and demonstrated a return to form by finishing as the runner-up behind David Barmasai with a time of 2:08:17.
